Disease States: Sports Related Injuries

Sports Related Injuries: At the Peripheral Nerve Center we are able to evaluate and treat sport related injuries resulting in neuropathy. Just as in any other trauma or overuse situation, nerves can be damaged depending on the severity of the injury. They can be partially or completely severed, crushed, compressed, or stretched during the activity.

Sport Injuries can include the following:

  • Cervical strain and lumbar strain
  • Post dislocation brachial plexopathy - nerves are stretched and injured in shoulder and/or neck.
  • Post knee dislocation sciatic neuropathy- nerves are stretch and injured in knee
  • “Stingers"- direct trauma and stretching of nerves in neck/shoulder. Causes pain but is not permanent.
  • Cervical stenosis- can be acquired or congenital.
